What is Eyelid Aesthetics (Blepharoplasty)?

Blepharoplasty, popularly known as eyelid aesthetics, can occur with aging and the effect of gravity, with the eyelid loosening and drooping. As this situation is cosmetically disturbing, sagging especially on the upper lid can reduce the vision by preventing the opening of the eyelid.

Blepharoplasty is a procedure that can be applied on the upper and lower lids, in which the tissues around the eyes are stretched, sagging muscle tissue is removed and in terms of the healing process.

In this surgery, the sagging skin tissue and the fat tissue that herniates with age are removed and sutured in accordance with the skin folds.

Operation Process

​

In general, we can convey what you need to know about the eyelid surgery process as follows:

• The operation is performed under local anesthesia or intravenous sedation.

• Due to the effect of anesthesia, the patient does not feel pain during the surgery.

• Depending on the patient's complaints during the operation, only the lower or upper lid is intervened.

• If necessary, it is possible to intervene in both the upper and lower eyelids in the same session.

• Excess skin is removed through an incision

• The operation is completed by suturing the incision area.

• The duration of the operation varies from approximately 1 hour to 1.5 hours.

• The operation does not require clinical rest, patients can be discharged on the same day.

• Mild headache or nausea may be experienced due to the effect of the anesthetic.

Post-Operation

​

Patients can benefit from this operation when the skin of the eyelids droops. We can convey the questions about the postoperative period as follows:

• It is very comfortable for patients in the early period after eyelid surgery.

• Depending on the intervention, there may be slight bruising and swelling around the eyes.

• Since the bruising and swelling are temporary, there is no need for intervention.

• Dryness and burning sensation in the eyes may occur after surgery

• Blurred vision may be experienced, provided that it is temporary.

• Patients may be disturbed by light for a short time

• There may be an increase in tears

• The patient may not be able to close their eyes completely for the first few days.

• All these are experienced within the first week after the surgery and pass by themselves.

• Stitches are removed after 5 to 7 days

• The patient should not receive a blow to the eye area during this period.

• Eyes should not be rubbed, pressure should not be applied to the seams.
